Simon Christensen: EKSTASIS

Simon Christensen’s decades of work within the string quartet genre have resulted in deeply moving works that have reshaped perceptions of what music for string quartet can be. His most recent quartet, the 45-minute EKSTASIS, written for the NeoQuartet from Poland, who perform it here, presents a broad musical tapestry whose intricate detail and rhythmic interplay are both meditative and ferocious, with a beauty and seductive power entirely its own.
