Freddy Kempf is a brave young man (born in 1977) who on his previous BIS-recordings has taken on giants such as Beethoven, Schumann and Rachmaninov. On this his fourth CD, the turn has come to Chopin and some of the mainstays of the romantic piano repertoire. The programme includes the four Ballades as well as the Fantaisie-Impromptu, and Kempf yet again gives proof of his astounding musical maturity as well as his technical ability. Recently named Young Artist of the Year at the prestigious Classical Brit Awards, Freddy Kempf has received tremendous critical acclaim for his other recordings on BIS. Of BIS-CD-960, his Schumann disc, the BBC Music Magazine wrote:"All in all, an extremly impressive debut disc from an artist of whom we will be hearing a great deal more." (6/1999). Gramophone called his Rachmaninov recording (BIS-CD-1042) "a very special record." (05/2000). And when Kempf took on the last three Beethoven sonatas (BIS-CD-1120) this was welcomed as "A truly admirable release, highly recommended" by the International Record Review (05/2001).
