Alfvén put the symphony into its final shape during 1918-1919 after spending a great deal of time in the outer archipelago of Stockholm. 'Anyone who has spent any time there will know just how magical it is! The symphony has a highly romantic programme which relates the emotions of two lovers; it rather shocked contemporary Swedish opinion at the time as being excessively sensual' (Gramophone). With Christina Högman, soprano and Claes-Håkan Ahnsjö tenor.
