Tubin started to compose his Requiem in 1950 but in the middle of the second movement he suddenly ceased writing. It was not until nineteen years later that he continued with the work. First performance in Stockholm 1981, Tubin's last appearance as a conductor.
With Håkan Hardenberger, trumpet, Helmut Sitar, timpani, Peter Wallin, drum and Janåke Larson, organ.
The fifth movement begins with a lenghty trumpet solo and the choir repeats the text and music of the first movement though in an altered form. At the end the trumpet plays some notes from the Estonian folksong 'Beneath the wise man's lodging'.
