Symphony No. 10 in F sharp/Adagio

From unfinished symphony No. 10. 'What interests me most about this wonderful music from the composition point of view is that Mahler (as a continuation of the third movement in Beethoven's Ninth with Adagio and Andante styles) takes these two styles - the Adagio relatively short, the Andante somewhat like a danse macabre - and moves them really closely together, they develop an ever-increasing degree of penetration' (Michael Gielen).
