String Quartet, Quartettsatz, in C minor

A fragment, probably intended as the opening movement to a complete quartet. The characteristic orchestral style is more definitely apparent here than in the quartets that followed. The techniques applied in the dark-toned introductory 'Grave' out of which the 'Allegro' gradually emerges are orchestral ones, as are those used in the central sections of the 'Allegro' itself.
