In a period directly after the Second World War, when many opera houses lay in ruins and Strauss's income from royalties declined sharply, he made a decision to create a suite for orchestra by putting the most popular pieces in the opera 'Der Rosenkavalier' together himself and so gain foothold in the concert halls with music which emanated from his own artistic tastes and not those of others. The premier of this suite was given at a reception in the Great Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus on September 28, 1946 as part of Austria's 950th anniversary celebrations, and was an immediate success. With Andreas Röhn, solo violin. Music used in the film 'A.I.'. Outstanding: Klassik-heute.
