Though Tchaikovsky's score contains no programmatic indications, the individual episodes are easy to identify: Romeo and Juliet's marriage ceremony conducted by Friar Laurence, followed by the skirmish between the hostile families - Mily Alexeyevich Balakirev's 'rattling swords', which are closer to being resilient foils in Tchaikovsky. The third part, ostensibly based on the English song 'None but the Weary Heart', is introduced by the cor anglais - one of Tchaikovsky's most beautiful inspirations. Harp chords announce the end, a variation of the love theme sounds. Juliet awakens to find Romeo dead beside her and takes her own life.
