Named 'Swan Song' by the publisher and not by Schubert, this collection of the composer's last songs consists of three components, with songs of poems by Ludwig Rellstab (1-8, 18), by Heinrich Heine (9-13) and by Johann Gabriel Seidl (14-17, 19-20). The Heine songs are definitely among Schubert's most major and poignant works, but each of the Rellstab songs is a gem in itself and convincing in this varied sequence. Outstanding: Klassik-heute.
