During the inter-war period in France, many women established careers as professional composers but remain largely unrecognized today. Marcelle de Manziarly, a composer, conductor, pianist, and teacher, is one such figure. Mentored by Nadia Boulanger and trained in conducting by Felix Weingartner, de Manziarly composed a diverse body of work that evolved stylistically throughout the 20th century. This recording includes several first-time discographic releases and spans her early compositions like the mature Violin Sonata to the dissonant and minimalist Trilogue. Performed by top chamber musicians, these pieces highlight the need to revisit and celebrate Marcelle de Manziarly's contributions to music.
