Sibelius' epic Kullervo (Symphony Op. 7), his enthralling early masterpiece. Based on the character of Kullervo from the epic poem Kalevala. Kullervo is the only irredeemably tragic character in Finnish mythology. The story is unique among ancient myths in its realistic depiction of the effects of child abuse.
