Played more often than any other Swedish piano concerto. The piece was composed 1904-1907 and was completed in Florence, where Stenhammar lived in 1906-1907. The first performance took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1908 with the composer conducting. Although at a casual glance the concerto seems to be in one continuous movement, it is possible to discern a clear division into four sections. The D major finale was written significantly later than the other three parts. Recommended: Gramophone.
