Russian conductor Alexander Dmitriev (born 1935) is since 1977 both principal conductor and artistic director of the Academic Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia. From 1990 to 1998 he was chief conductor of Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway. Dmitriev is counted among the most significant Russian conductors - a worthy inheritor of the traditions established by the famous St. Petersburg school of conducting. He has toured extensively in Russia and abroad.
