Chinese-American composer, conductor and pianist Bright Sheng (b. 1955). He moved to New York in 1982. One of his principal teachers was Leonard Bernstein. Besides awards received in China and Europe, in the United States he has received prizes from the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, the Guggenheim Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Naumburg Foundation, Koussevitzky Foundation, Copland Foundation, Kennedy Center and the Tanglewood Music Center.
