Named Swan Song by the publisher and not by Schubert, this collection of the composer’s last
songs consists of three components. Seven songs on poems by Ludwig Rellstab, six songs after Heinrich Heine and a single song by Johann Gabriel Seidl. The Heine songs are definitely among Schubert’s most major and poignant works but each of the Rellstab songs is a gem in itself and convincing in this varied sequence.
