The Komaki Philharmonic Orchestra was established in 2000 as the Komaki City Symphony Orchestra with the aim of "promoting and improving musical art and culture". In 2007, it was renamed the Chubu Philharmonic Orchestra. Based in Komaki City, it is a professional orchestra that energetically gives concerts mainly in the Chubu region, aiming to be a "top-class orchestra rooted in the community.
In order to contribute to emotional education through music, the orchestra is also making efforts to nurture future musicians by offering concerts to which children as young as 0 years old can enter, ensemble concerts for kindergarten children, full orchestra performances for children and students, and the dispatch of orchestra members to teach brass bands. As part of a touring performance project commissioned by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the orchestra visits elementary and junior high schools throughout Japan to deliver classical masterpieces and school songs with orchestral sounds, which has been well received. In addition, the orchestra actively recruits up-and-coming soloists from the Chukyo area for its independent performances, and focuses on supporting and nurturing young local musicians.
In addition, as part of its social contribution activities, the orchestra invites welfare organizations to its concerts and holds volunteer concerts at senior citizen facilities and hospitals, thereby contributing to the realization of an enriched society by providing as many people as possible with opportunities to appreciate classical music.
The orchestra's subscription concerts cover a wide range of music from the classics to the modern era, and are highly acclaimed for the ensemble's ability and passionate performances, along with challenging and varied projects such as "twicles" (a series of concerts of the same composer) and premieres of new works.
