Although regularly performed, little has come down to us about Händel's ‘Dixit Dominus’. A work by a 22-year-old composer, its impressive virtuosity reflects the state of mind of Händel at the time: fiery, daring and sensitive.
Surrounded by Les Argonautes and a splendid cast of soloists (Roset, Allérat, Pichanick, Billiemazand Mazurov), Jonas Descotte has chosen to work with a limited number of players to deliver a fresh reading, guided by dramatic intent, generosity, precision and suppleness of line.
And in response to the Saxon’s genius, the ensemble summons Lotti, his friend and mentor, with his Dixit Dominus, a Crucifixus for five and his Miserere mei, responding to this three-hundred year-old youth with ardour, maturity and exceptional finesse.
