Sören Hermansson



Swedish hornist Sören Hermansson (b.1956).
Internationally known as a performer, recording artist and educator. He was most recently the horn professor at the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor between 1999 and 2006. Hermansson studied with Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm between 1972-1974 and won his first position as 3rd/1st horn of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra just before his 18th birthday. After four years in that orchestra, he continued his studies with Adriaan van Woudenberg at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam from 1978-1979.
Between 1979 and 1981, Hermansson studied with Gerd Seifert at the Karajan Academy in Berlin where he also played numerous concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan. In 1981 he was also one of the soloists with the Radio Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, performing Richard Strauss' 2nd Horn Concerto which was broadcast in 10 concerts in the series 'RIAS STELLT VOR'. Between 1982 and 1988, He was the 3rd horn with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Neeme Järvi.
