Nikolay Karlovich Medtner

Russian composer Nikolay Karlovich Medtner (1880-1951). He studied at the Moscow Conservatory, where he later taught the piano, before leaving Russia in 1921 to settle first in Paris, and then, in 1935, in England, where he remained until his death. In style his music may is in line of the Russian composer-pianists, but also with influences from Schumann and Brahms. Medtner writes in a distinctive enough language that is recognizably his own.
