III. Sérénade de Don Juan

Szymanowski: 3 Masques/3: Sérénade de Don Juan. The trilogy Masques portrays the story-telling Shéhérazade, an episode from the legend of Tristan and Isolde (Tantris the Clown) and Don Juan's Serenade. It thus provided ample opportunity for Szymanowski to explore languorous orientalisms, imaginative tone-painting (for instance capturing the sound of Don Juan‘s guitar) and the complex psyches of two of the most ambiguous heroes in Western literature.
