J.S. Bach: Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, BWV 62

The J. S. Bach Foundation has already recorded another cantata of the same name, BWV 61 from Bach's Weimar period (1714). BWV 62, which appears on this CD, was composed at the beginning of Advent in Leipzig in 1724. Two similar and yet so different works! Both are quite short and yet complete, with both referring to crib and cross, conflict and victory, darkness and light. Indeed, the two works encompass an astounding range of ideas and expression.
