Hungarian Rhapsodies 1–6

The six Hungarian Rhapsodies might be termed a genuine »hit parade« and were deemed worthy of orchestration by Franz Liszt. These arrangements to be assigned to the last phase of Liszt’s Weimar years certainly number among his most extroverted orchestral pieces and those with the greatest public impact.

Two years ago, on the occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of the composer’s birth, the internationally renowned Austrian conductor Martin Haselböck began releasing his complete orchestral works in performances on original instruments of the nineteenth century. The lavish
production process and the employment of original instruments creates a particularly authentic sound picture transporting the listener back to the nineteenth century and more than meeting the high standards of the these
works.
