When Shostakovich wrote his Piano Quintet in 1940, most of his chamber music had yet to be composed. Combining formal purity and freedom of tone, the quintet was hailed as a masterly creation and has remained his most successful chamber work. In the last years of a long and productive life, he composed a cycle of songs with piano trio, innovative in both form and structure, a hymn to art, friendship and nature possessing extraordinary evocative power. To tackle these major works of the twentieth century, the Trio Wanderer has chosen partners of the calibre of Catherine Montier, Christophe Gaugué, and an expert in Russian vocal music, Ekaterina Semenchuk.
Lorsqu'en 1940, Chostakovitch compose son Quintette avec piano, l'essentiel de son œuvre de musique de chambre reste à inventer. Alliant pureté formelle et liberté de ton, cette pièce fut saluée comme un coup de maître et restera son plus grand succès chambriste. Au crépuscule d'une vie longue et féconde, il compose un cycle de mélodies avec trio, nouveau dans sa forme comme dans sa construction. Une œuvre d'une extraordinaire puissance d'évocation et un hymne à l'art, à l'amitié et à la nature. Pour aborder ces œuvres majeures du XXe siècle, les Wanderer se sont tournés vers des complices tels que Catherine Montier et Christophe Gaugué et une experte de la lyrique russe, Ekaterina Semenchuk.
Als Schostakowitsch 1940 sein Klavierquintett schrieb, lag der Großteil seiner Kammermusik noch in der Zukunft. Von formaler Klarheit und ungezwungener Tongebung, wurde das Quintett sogleich als Meisterstück gefeiert und blieb sein erfolgreichstes Kammermusikwerk. Am Ende eines langen, produktiven Lebens schrieb er einen bezüglich Form und Struktur neuartigen Liederzyklus mit Klaviertrio: eine Hymne an die Kunst, die Freundschaft und die Natur von außergewöhnlicher Ausdruckskraft. Für diese beiden Hauptwerke des 20. Jahrhunderts hat das Trio Wanderer mit Catherine Montier und Christophe Gaugué bewährte Gefährten sowie mit Ekaterina Semenschuck eine Spezialistin für russischen Gesang hinzugezogen.
