Brahms a composé plus de 200 Lieder en 40 ans. Ceux qui nous sont parvenus montrent à quel point le lied était essentiel dans ce processus de composition. Le choix de lieder proposé ici illustre la diversité d’un corpus où on retrouve Heine, comme chez tant d’autres, mais aussi d’autres poètes dont la mise en musique atteint les mêmes sommets que les Quatre Chants Sérieux op. 121, si emblématiques de cette magnifique et singulière création.
