ComposerCastelnuovo-Tedesco, Mario

Castelnuovo-Tedesco dedicated his Sinfonia Concertante, written in US exile in 1950, to Lady Barbirolli. It is an extremely polyphonic, through-composed work, which, in spite of its complicated composition technique, does not strike the listener as being academic. 'The string orchestra is extremely accomplished - the sound is outstandingly pleasant and well-balanced (BBC Music Magazine).
