The 24 Preludes by Chopin were written between 1836 and 1839 and recall the Well Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach, which Chopin had already come to know through his first piano teacher, Adalbert Zwyny. Each of the two volumes presents each key separately in diptych consisting of a seemingly improvised prelude and a strict fugue.
