This 'Menuet Antique' was Ravel's first published piece, in its piano version as composed in 1895. The orchestration was made in 1929, and deliberately (it's marked 'majestic') summons up a 20th century version of 18th century elegant grandeur brushed with harmonic touches from music of an earlier age.
