String quartet with two violas. Originally conceived as baritone/tenor horn trio for Duke Esterhazy. A work of great delicacy, with ravishingly inventive melodies and full of surprising turns of harmony. The manuscript of this version is found in the castle of Count Festetics on Lake Balaton, who had the largest library in Europe at the time.
