Christoffer Sundqvist is one of the leading clarinettists of his generation. Alongside his outstanding performances of the classical repertoire, he is a dedicated ambassador for contemporary Nordic music, and composers such as Magnus Lindberg, Erkki-Sven Tüür and Aulis Sallinen have written more than 20 works for him. Orchestras with which he has appeared include the major Finnish orchestras, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, under conductors such as Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Sakari Oramo, Karl-Heinz Steffens and Hannu Lintu. Christoffer Sundqvist has been a guest at the Kuhmo, Delft, Kempten and West Cork Chamber Music Festivals and collaborates with Pekka Kuusisto, Bram van Sambeek and Liza Ferschtman. Since 2013 he has been artistic director of the Jakobstad Sinfonietta and the Rusk Chamber Music Festival in Jakobstad. He has a rich and varied discography, including an acclaimed recording of Sebastian Fagerlund’s clarinet concerto on BIS. Winner of the Crusell Clarinet Competition in 2002, Christoffer Sundqvist has been principal clarinet of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2005. He teaches the clarinet at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
