Carl Schuricht

Carl Schuricht (1880-1967) was one of the greatest German conductors in the first half of the 20th century. Like Wilhelm Furtwängler, Otto Klemperer, Bruno Walter and the somewhat younger Erich Kleiber and Karl Böhm, Schuricht belonged to the generation of German conductors born before the turn of the century, musicians who were steeped in the traditions of the Classical and Romantic symphonic repertoire. Absolute fidelity to the original work was always a central issue for Schuricht. From 1912 director of music in Wiesbaden, from 1922 General Music Director. He moved to Switzerland 1944. Buried in Wiesbaden as an honorary citizen of the city.
