Dedicated to Neeme Järvi. The melodic element of the symphony makes us think of the choral music of the 14th and 15th centuries (though there are no quotations): the rhythm recalls Viennese classicism and early romanticism. The structure is polyphonic (with Dutch polyphony at its source). Outstanding: Gramophone.
