The suite was composed in the summer of 1943, originally for violin and piano, Evald Turgan and Olav Roots were the performers. In Sweden Tubin reconstructed the first three movements of the suite from memory. The fourth movement was only sent to him from Estonia at the beginning of the 1960:s. In 1974 Tubin rearranged the suite for violin and symphony orchestra.
