In the second symphony there occurs a definite change in Sibelius' symphonic mood. The mists of Kalevala give way to a clearer atmosphere and a softer light which gives the contours more charm. The themes are almost classically balanced and malleable. Outstanding: Penguin Guide+++, Stereoplay.
