First performed in 1946, then withdrawn by the composer. But the conductor Sten Frykberg persuaded Larsson to let him make a radio recording with the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 1975. The symphony won immediate acclaim and has subsequently been performed on a number of occasions.
