From his masterpiece the ballet Namouna where Lalo used 'exotic' tunes noted down at the Paris World Exhibition in 1878. The ballet was booed by the audience at its premiére but hailed by Debussy, Chabrier, Dukas and Fauré. However, the ballet became popular as a series of orchestral suites.
