Isang Yun



Korean composer Isang Yun (1917-1995). He started studying music in Seoul in 1934 and then moved to Japan. He fought in the underground movement against the Japanese when they occupied his homeland, ending up as a political prisoner. After winning Seoul's Grand Culture Prize he was able to take up his studies in Paris and Berlin at to attend the Darmstads workshops. In 1967 he was accused of spying for North Korea and was several times sentenced to death. Released after international protests, he returned to Germany in 1971. He died in Berlin.
