Martin: from 8 Preludes for Piano. Written for the Romanian pianist Dinu Lipatti, who however insisted that two years' acquaintance with the music would be necesseray before he could contemplate playing them in public. Lipatti died without ever performing them all. The 8 Preludes are Martin's only mature, substantial work for piano.
