In 1930 Larsson was asked if he was interested in setting Hjalmar Gullberg's cycle of poems Förklädd Gud (God in Disguise) to music. Gullberg was head of the Swedish Radio's drama division and the two men had already begun a successful collaboration. The large scale composition did not begin seriously until 1940. By then Denmark and Norway had just been occupied.
God in Disguise is a protest against violence in our world, but in spite of the bitter time at which the work came into being, its atmosphere is optimistic and its basic tone is unobtrusively pastoral.
With Helsingborg Concert Hall Choir. Soloists: Birgit Nordin, soprano, Håkan Hagegård, baritone and Per Jonsson, narrator.
