This album features Alexander Borodin’s two completed symphonies, alongside his famous symphonic poem *In the Steppes of Central Asia*, performed by the Malmö Symphony Orchestra under Jun’ichi Hirokami.

Symphony No. 1 in E-flat major, written between 1862 and 1867 under the guidance of Mily Balakirev, showcases Borodin’s natural melodic gift and early structural innovations. It blends Russian lyricism with classical symphonic form, foreshadowing his later masterpieces. Symphony No. 2 in B minor, completed in 1876, is a bold and dramatic work, rich with folk-inspired themes and powerful orchestration. It remains one of Borodin’s most celebrated orchestral compositions.

The album also includes *In the Steppes of Central Asia*, a musical depiction of a caravan journey through the vast desert landscape, blending Russian and Eastern influences. This recording highlights Borodin’s unique synthesis of national character, lush harmonies, and orchestral brilliance.
