Known as the 'The little Pathétique'. Dedicated to Countess Anna Margarete von Browne, the wife of the half Irish, half Russian Count von Browne who was one of Beethoven's earliest protectors in Vienna.
By the way, the Count sponsored Beethoven financially, and also gave him a horse as present. The poor animal was promptly forgotten by his new owner and had to be rescued from starvation by the composer's friends.
Gramophone Award; Music Web: outstanding.
