NORIKO OGAWA
A remarkably versatile musician, Noriko Ogawa’s highly acclaimed recordings on BIS range from Debussy’s Children's Corner to opulent piano concertos by, among others, Rachmaninov and Grieg, and contemporary music by her own compatriot Toru Takemitsu and the British composer Graham Fitkin. In reviews of her discs Noriko Ogawa’s playing is variously described as 'brilliance and power in equal measure' (Fanfare), 'clarity, delicacy and impeccable sense of proportion' (BBC Music Magazine), and 'forceful, nuanced and accentuated' (Piano News). Since her success at the 1987 Leeds International Piano Competition she has been pursuing an international career, and appears with all the major European, Japanese and US orchestras. She also enjoys chamber projects, and has collaborated with musicians such as Steven Isserlis and Isabelle van Keulen, and in 2001 launched a piano duo with the British pianist Kathryn Stott. Alongside performing and recording, Ogawa is sought-after for presenting, both on the radio and on television, and regularly acts as a judge at competitions such as the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition and the Honens International Piano Competition. Her most recent title for BIS takes her down a new path, with three of Mozart's best-loved piano sonatas, including the A Major Sonata K331 and its ever-popular ‘Alla Turca’ finale. read more
