FREDDY KEMPF
Described in BBC Music Magazine as 'an uncommonly thoughtful virtuoso pianist' Freddy Kempf dazzles listeners and reviewers with his pianistic skills in spectacular works such as Islamey and Gaspard de la Nuit, but also impresses with the clarity and transparency with which he brings out the lines in a partita by Bach. A committed recitalist, he also performs extensively as soloist, with invitations from orchestras worldwide, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra. He made his concerto debut at the age of 8 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and has maintained strong links with the orchestra ever since, joining them for his conducting debut in 2011. His first concerto recording for BIS was with Andrew Litton and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 3. Nominated to a Gramophone Award for that disc, the same performers recently teamed up in an all-Gershwin programme described in the press as ‘beautiful, stylish, light, and elegant’. Kempf's next release will be a Schumann recital, harking back to his debut disc in 1999, when the then 22-year old pianist caused a sensation with his performance of the same composer's Carnaval, Op.9. read more
