Between 1903 and his death in 1915, Scriabin composed 20 single-movement piano pieces that he called "poémes". These pieces with their ‘revolutionary’ harmony took the piano into the twentieth century. In overstepping the limits of tonality, in associating mystical doctrines and symbolism with the act of composing, Scriabin pointed the way to ‘total art’. The challenge for the interpreter is all the greater since he has to master both the spiritual and the technical aspects of this composer’s art. Pascal Amoyel is the ideal interpreter of this music
