Trios for a countess and an archduke.
It was Beethoven who gave the piano trio the form it was to retain throughout the 19th century, by allowing the string instruments the status of genuinely equal partners. Here three eminent Beethovenians present the composer’s last two works in the genre, op.70 no.2 (1808) dedicated to Countess Marie Erdödy, and the celebrated ‘Archduke’ (1811) that marked the final public appearance of its composer.

C’est Beethoven qui donne au genre du trio avec piano la forme qu’il conservera tout au long du XIXe siècle, en accordant aux instruments à cordes le statut de partenaires à part entière. Trois Beethovéniens émérites vous proposent ici les deux derniers trios du Maître, l’op.70 n°2 (1808) dédié à la comtesse Marie Erdödy, et l’archi-célèbre… “Archiduc” (1811), qui marqua la dernière apparition en public de Beethoven pianiste.

Beethoven prägte für das ganze 19. Jahrhundert die Form des Klaviertrios, indem er die Streichinstrumente zu gleichberechtigten Partnern des Klaviers erhob. Drei herausragende Beethovenianer präsentieren hier die letzten beiden Trios des Meisters: das op.70, Nr.2 (1808), gewidmet der Gräfin Marie Erdödy, sowie das berühmte Erzherzog-Trio (1811). Die Uraufführung des Werks markiert Beethovens letzten Auftritt als Pianist.
